The aim of psychoanalysis is the care of the subject
It’s easy to read this as the “quest for self-discovery” or “emotional well-being”, but the goal goes beyond that. The great premise of psychoanalysis is that a substantial part of what constitutes us is not clear to us. The psychoanalytic work seeks to deal with the dynamics of and in the subject’s unconscious. This is done in a therapeutic setting where the analysand, or patient, explores their internal conflicts and finds meaning in their experiences, supported by the analyst’s listening. The ultimate objective is to enable the analysand to reduce psychic suffering.
It all starts with talking
The subject’s psychoanalytic work always begins with the initial establishment of a good relationship. To this end, a series of initial meetings precedes the actual start of treatment. Feel free to get in touch so we can take these initial steps together.
